I've been noodling on something the last few days. While working on the computer recently, I came across a song on YouTube that has been a great encouragement to me called "He Is No Fool" based on the words of missionary martyr Jim Elliot. "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose."
The song can bring tears to my eyes as I reflect on what it signifies to me.
He is no fool
If he would choose
It describes the cost of being a disciple of Jesus Christ. It is to be misunderstood by the world, to be mocked by others, it is to be thought a fool, but it is what we as Christians (little disciples) are to be; what I am to be and should take joy in!
"Then said Jesus unto His disciples, If any man will come after Me, let him take deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me." Matthew 16:24
"Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
This is short. I don't have much else to say, but over the last few days, my heart has really gone out with a desire to encourage fellow young women who have chosen a different path than the traditional course of college and career. Those who have been willing to stand against the tide of modern feminism (and sometimes, even conservative mindsets) with the goal of achieving something better than the approval of man, the desire to achieve that which is eternal. It is a wonderful calling, but it is hard. It is a cross and like all crosses, we must take them up fully knowing that we will be thought the fool and what we strive for will be rarely understood. But isn't that the way of Jesus? What Christ counts as precious is seen as foolishness to the world? May we stand strong in the truth in which we have been made free and rest in the joy of serving Jesus, and Jesus only.
